Teaching first year students the sociological perspective is one of Kerry’s favourite things to do. She strives to spark curiosity among her students and encourages them to expand their horizons during university. One way she does this is by offering students the opportunity to engage in service-learning, a form of experiential learning. She also focuses on developing fundamental skills—like reading (how to read a research article) and writing (how to write a social science paper) in her courses (especially Introduction to Sociology). She expects students to come to class, be prepared, and work hard. In return, she makes class dynamic, interesting, and occasionally even fun! Here Kerry is enjoying a soccer game with her son.
