I am a poet and academic currently based in Vancouver. I hold a PhD in English from the University of the Witwatersrand (Johannesburg, South Africa) and a Master of Arts in Modern Literature and Culture from the University of York (United Kingdom). Before joining UBC, I taught a humanities-breadth course in the Faculty of Environment at Simon Fraser University. In South Africa I taught at the University of the Witwatersrand – teaching English Literature to Arts students and Critical Thinking and Composition to Engineering and Architecture students. My research focuses on the crossover between urban spaces, literature, and the environment. I am particularly interested in postapartheid/post-transitional South African literature(s), urban geography, gold rush imaginaries, postcolonial ecocriticism, and writing pedagogy. Recent examples of my work can be found in The Journal of Commonwealth Literature, Safundi, English Studies in Africa and the Cambridge Journal of Education.
