About

Dr. Adrian Lou earned his PhD in English from the University of British Columbia. His research aims at identifying the cognitive properties of figurative language. In particular, his work examines the rhetorical functions of multimodal metaphors and similes in discourse.

Adrian’s other research interests include science and technology studies, media studies, and game studies. Most recently, Adrian has been investigating the ways in which tabletop board games foster unique intersubjective interactions among players. He wants to understand how rules and mechanisms of thematic games can represent and reproduce certain economic and political ideologies.
