Students in the UBC Coordinated Arts Program attend lectures, discussion groups, and seminars through five different research streams.

These small cohorts cultivate intimate learning communities that enrich the educational and social experiences of a student’s first year. The program’s stream topics give students and faculty the opportunity to discuss similar ideas from various perspectives and to practice discipline-specific research approaches. The two-term time frame enables students and faculty to explore issues in complex ways and to undertake sophisticated research projects. The year-end CAP Conference celebrates this research experience.

 

 

People & Planet
This stream invites students to think critically and discover their own agency amidst the powerful forces of climate change, colonialism, and global change.
Individual & Society
This stream offers a foundation for understanding, researching, and writing about the relationships among people and the worlds they inhabit.
Media Studies
Explore the cultural and political impacts of media in society, through courses in literature, journalism, and film, as well as hands-on classes.
Law & Society
Learn about how society and law shape each other - using lenses from historical, literary, cultural, political, and anthropological research.
Political Science, Philosophy, Economics
Learn about government policy, economic organization, and social justice as you encounter the processes, systems, institutions, and values that shape our societies.
ASTU 100 & 101
Arts Studies 100/101 are courses in each stream that introduce students to the academic community and how its practices produce knowledge.
