Registration

Registration for CAP is open to all UBC students with fist-year standing on a first-come, first-served basis.

CAP is 18 credits in total – this means you will take 3 courses in Term 1 and 3 courses in Term 2. CAP students have 12 remaining credits that can be used to choose any of the elective courses available to first-year students at UBC.

How to register

There are two ways to register in CAP. We recommend using the simplified early registration form (below) until registration opens in Workday. You can also register directly in Workday once first-year registration opens on June 23rd, 2026.

Early Registration in the Coordinated Arts Program

In order to streamline the registration process, we encourage students to register early in the Coordinated Arts Program (CAP) by using our simplified online form. Please follow the link below to access the early registration form until June 22nd, 2026 at noon.

Direct Registration in Workday: Step by Step Guide

Follow the steps below to register yourself in CAP via Workday. Please note that CAP is a 2-term commitment. The steps below will guide you to register in Term 1 (Fall) and then Term 2 (Winter). If you have any questions along the way, please contact us at support.fyip@ubc.ca

1. Log into Workday

2. Navigate to the CAP schedule for Term 1

In Workday, type “Find Course Sections” in the search bar at the top of the page. Then click on the “Find Course Sections" report. (Click here for help finding this report in Workday).
In the “Find Course Sections” dialog box, enter the relevant “Start Date” and “Academic Level” for Term 1.

3. Find your CAP courses in Term 1

Now you can look for the courses in your desired CAP stream by searching for the core course, CAP 100. Start by searching for the core course, CAP 100. Type “CAP_V 100-” in the search field, and then add the letter that stands for your chosen stream:

“E” for Environment and Society (CAP_V 100-E);
"I" for Individual and Society (CAP_V 100-I);
"L" for Law and Society (CAP_V 100-L);
"M" for Media Studies (CAP_V 100-M);
"P" for Political Science, Philosophy and Economics (PPE) (CAP_V 100-P)

This will filter the results to the core seminar in the stream, “CAP_V 100,” with multiple section (timeslot) options. For example, CAP_V 100-E01, and CAP_V 100-E02 in the Environment and Society stream.

Click on the seminar section that fits your preferred timeslot. You will be redirected to a new page to view further details about the seminar and to see the other stream courses (sections) it is clustered with.

4. Finish registering in all CAP courses in Term 1

These are other courses required to complete the registration in your chosen stream. If you’d like more details about these courses before selecting them in Workday, click the stream name below.

- Environment and Society
- Individual and Society
- Law and Society
- Media Studies
- PPE
In addition to your chosen CAP 100 seminar, you will enroll in the two lecture-courses in this stream. Register in ENST_V 211-CAP+ POLI_V 100-228.
For POLI_V 100 you will also register for a discussion section. Choose the section that meets at your preferred time (LX1, LX2, or LX3).
There are no discussion sections for ENST_V 211-CAP or CAP_V 100-E.
In addition to your chosen CAP 100 seminar, you will enroll in the two lecture-courses in this stream. Register in SOCI_V 102-CAP + PSYC_V 101-003.
You will also choose one (1) discussion section for SOCI_V 102 (E10, E11, E12 or E13). Choose the discussion section that meets at your preferred time.
There are no discussion sections for PSYC_V 101 and CAP_V 100-I.
In addition to your chosen CAP 100 seminar, you will enroll in the two lecture-courses in this stream. Register in ANTH_V 100-A_002+ GRSJ_V 101_227.
You will also choose one (1) discussion section for ANTH_V 100A (D2A, D2B, D2C, D2D, or D2E). Choose the discussion section that meets at your preferred time.
There are no discussion sections for GRSJ_V 101 and CAP_V 100-L.
In addition to your chosen CAP 100 seminar, you will enroll in the two lecture-courses in this stream. Register in CINE_V 100-004 + CRWR_V 213-CAP.
For CINE_V 100 you will also register for a discussion section. Choose the discussion section that meets at your preferred time (D41, D42 or D43).
There are no discussion sections for CRWR_V 213 and CAP_V 100-M.
In addition to your chosen CAP 100 seminar, you will enroll in the two lecture-courses in this stream. Register in POLI_V 100-227 + ECON_V 101-011.
You will also choose one (1) discussion section for POLI_V 100 (LZ1, LZ2, LZ3, LZ4, LZ5 or LZ6) and one (1) discussion section for ECON_V 101 (LC1, LC2, LC3 or LC4). Choose the discussion section that meets at your preferred time.
There are no discussion sections for CAP_V 100-P.

You are now ready to register into Term 2 courses.

5. Navigate to the CAP schedule for Term 2

In Workday, type “Find Course Sections” in the search bar at the top of the page. Then click on the “Find Course Sections" report. (Click here for help finding this report in Workday).
In the “Find Course Sections” dialog box, enter the relevant “Start Date” and “Academic Level” for Term 2.

6. Find your CAP courses in Term 2

Note: Students registered in PPE must skip this step and follow the directions in step 7.

For students registered in all other streams, you will now look for the Term 2 core course, CAP 101, by typing “CAP_V 101-A” in the search field. Add the letter that corresponds to the stream you have chosen in Term 1.

This will filter the results to the core seminars in the stream, with multiple section (timeslot) options. For example, CAP_V 101-A_E01, and CAP_V 101-A_E02 in the Environment and Society stream.

Important

You must choose the same section number (ie. timeslot) for both CAP 100 and CAP 101. For example, if you chose CAP_V 100-E02 in Term 1, you must choose CAP_V 101-A_E02 here.

7. Finish registering in all CAP courses in Term 2

These are other courses required to complete the registration in your chosen stream. If you’d like more details about these courses before selecting them in Workday, click the stream name below.

- Environment and Society
- Individual and Society
- Law and Society
- Media Studies
- PPE
In addition to your chosen CAP 101A seminar, you will enroll in the two lecture-courses in this stream. Register in GEOG_V 122-CAP + HIST_V 113-227.
You will also choose one (1) discussion section for GEOG_V 122 (C2A, C2B, C2C, C2D or C2E) and one (1) discussion section for HIST_V 113 (CD1, CD2, CD3, CD4 or CD5). Choose the discussion section that meets at your preferred time.
There are no discussion sections for CAP_V 101-A.
In addition to your chosen CAP 101A seminar, you will enroll in the two lecture-courses in this stream. Register in ECON_V 102-010 + PSYC_V 102-005.
You will also choose one (1) discussion section for ECON_V 102 (LC1, LC2, LC3 or LC4). Choose the discussion section that meets at your preferred time.
There are no discussion sections for PSYC_V 102 and CAP_V 101-A_I.
In addition to your chosen CAP 101A seminar, you will enroll in the two lecture-courses in this stream. Register in POLI_V 101-099 + HIST_V 113_227.
You will also choose one (1) discussion section for POLI_V 101 (LZ1, LZ3, LZ4, LZ5 or LZ6) and one (1) discussion session for HIST_V 113 (CD1, CD2, CD3, CD4 or CD5). Choose the discussion section that meets at your preferred time.
There are no discussion sections for CAP_V 101-A_L.
In addition to your chosen CAP 101A seminar, you will enroll in the two lecture-courses in this stream. Register in VISA_V 110-227 + JRNL_V 100A-227.
For VISA_V 110 you will also register for a studio section. Choose the studio section that meets at your preferred time (L21, L22, L23 or L24).
There are no discussion sections for JRNL_V 100A and CAP_V 101-A_M.
Please note the following exception for students registering in the PPE stream:
- there is no CAP 101 course in Term 2; You must register for three (3) other CAP courses in the stream.
- you will enroll into the following three (3) lecture courses and discussion sections. The following sections are reserved for CAP students:
  1. ECON_V 102-011 & choose one (1) discussion session (LC5, LC6, LC7 or LC8);
  2. PHIL_V 102-003 & choose one (1) discussion session (section L93 is reserved for CAP students. Please note that there are no scheduled meetings for this L93 discussion section. It is just a section that CAP students need to register for);
  3. POLI_V 101-227 & choose one (1) discussion session (LX1, LX2, LX3, LX4, LX5 or LX6);
