Gabrielle Berry is a PhD candidate in Cinema and Media studies at the University of British Columbia. She holds a BA (Honors) in Film and English from Queen’s University, Ontario, and an MA in Film Studies from UBC. Her research focuses on the intersections of sound, Deaf and disability studies. Her dissertation project examines the relationship between sound and closed captions in film and media.

Gabrielle is a recipient of the SSHRC and Killam doctoral awards, and the Claudia Gorbman Graduate Student Writing Award. Her work appears in The Soundtrack, Cinephile and Music, Sound, and the Moving Image.
