About

Dr. Mahtani has been a national television news producer, an award winning radio host, a consultant on Canadian immigration for both the national and provincial government. She recently published an award-winning memoir, May it Have a Happy Ending (Penguin Random House) about losing her mother to tongue cancer. She has taught in New York City, at Lang College, at University of Toronto and is now Chair of Canadian Studies. She loves Love Island, Joan Didion, her sheepadoodle and Proust. She has won the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for her contributions to equity, diversity and inclusion in journalism. She is of Muslim, Iranian and Indian descent and holds a PhD from University College London.
